This is a regular occurrence in MikeForce, with some buildings in particular.
Best example of which is the Vehicle Workshop:
This (not so great) picture is of one of several occasions where this very useful structure has to be placed outside the wire.
In fact, to my experience this particular building ends up outside the defensive perimeter in 9 of every 10 times I see it used.
It is simply too large to fit any reasonable-sized FOB. Constraints of builder personnel, defensive manpower and above all else, surrounding terrain, mean that it is always nearly impossible to wedge this warehouse in the majority of FOBs.
There are other large structures that can be built, but none that are of strategic value such as this one. In most other cases, such large affairs are usually chosen only where they do fit comfortably, else something smaller gets built instead.
A few possible solutions (non-exclusive, no particular order):
Change the model for the workshop to something akin to the vehicle service pallets. A flat, ground-level pad such as the PSP helipads should do well as a vehicle spawn area. Most FOBs will have enough room for these.
Add a smaller tent-sized building for use as "Armory" - allowing deployment of static weapons. Most times the vehicle workshop is desired for deployment of M2 .50cal MGs. It'd be most sensible to have a tent-sized building (similar to the medical tent) where all types of static weaponry can be spawned (including mortars and other caliber MGs)
On a related note:
There are various buildings which are often placed in "hovering" positions. This is highly frowned upon and some servers have rules to kick off players who allow it to happen.
There exists a structure which consists of a flat-topped hunk of packed dirt which serves for a base and is often used to correct unintended cases of "naked undersides".
However, this particular item is not available to MikeForce team engineers, and thus requires that the ACAV builder be highly finish-conscious and willing to risk his neck patching up holes instead of proceeding to more vital construction.
If MikeForce engineers were allowed to build such platforms, it would be possible for them to help patch up these gaps wherever they are found. It is usually a moments affair to plug a hole as you run by it on a lull in battle when you're a part of MF. Whereas for the ACAV person, this would be rather an inconvenience, having other things to do.
Solution:
- Allow that non-ACAV engineers be able to construct all packed-dirt items, especially those which could help patching up the occasional naked underside of things built in a hurry.
There are probably other similar cases that could benefit from being mentioned here, though as of now I can't think of any more.
What other buildings are awkward to place and how would you suggest their improvement?
