Once again I join an official Mike Force server (#8, this time) only to find beset by server pirates to such a horrifying amount that playing in it was rendered absolutely impossible.
With a 2030 player population, I then set about instructing all on the troll removal procedure (M for map, click players, find troll, add your boot to the kick) via side-chat. Naturally 5 or 6 players readily complied, while most others (not counting the trio of trolls on rampage) remained wholly aloof and served only to deny prompt resolution of the issue with their non-voting presence.
I decided then that the 51% players vote requirement, mentioned previously by one dev to be the current setting for these servers, remains a much too high degree of consensus to expect in such a situation.
It is very unusual to get enough players to vote to reach that percentage. A large number of players don't seem to know how its done and require step-by-step procedures being typed out each time there is a problem. Others simply don't appear to speak enough English to understand what is going on and what's expected of them. Most, however, appear to subscribe to the notion that whatever isn't happening immediately to themselves is "somebody else's problem".
Whatever the reasons, it is clear at this time that getting a vote out of one in every two players online is far too tall an order. Expecting this much compliance makes it an exceedingly slow process to have a troublesome player removed. Before then, many good players have left for another server. This way, the troll usually wins.
Expediting the offender's removal is key. For which ideally, the vote threshold should be set as low as it can go without allowing that the vote-kick system itself become a weapon of trolls by abuse.
As I have observed, 5 or 6 votes against a rampant troll in due time appears to be a general average for player compliance in a server of 2040 individuals.
From such, I infer that it is necessary to set the vote-kick threshold at a range of 2025% (or a minimum 3 players, whichever is highest).
There is very seldom more than one single troll up on rampage at any one given time, and very rarely indeed these villains are in cahoots with each other.
Thus I reason a 2025% vote requirement should allow the self-service-server-police system to perform its expected function without it becoming possible for trolls to use it as a weapon for themselves in return.
Please address this matter ASAP.
Also please consider deputizing trusted players as moderators with the powers of kick and ban. A task for which I am sure there are many worthy candidates among us.
Thanks in advance.
